INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING FOR A
VERMONT ELECTRICAL LICENSE

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND DATES CAREFULLY!! 

*****THIS IS YOUR APPLICATION FOR A LICENSE NOT A REGISTRATION FORM FOR EXAMINATION!! THE REGISTRATION FORM FOR THE EXAM WILL BE MAILED AFTER YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE BOARD.***** 

1. Complete the attached forms listing type of electrical work performed, approximate time in hours, dates and names of licensed persons under whom you were working.

2. AFFIDAVIT FORM ATTACHED MUST BE FILED BY EACH EMPLOYER and attached to application form. (Not required for reciprocal.)

3. TAX CERTIFICATION AND CHILD SUPPORT FORMS MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED WITH ALL APPLICATIONS.

4. Attach a check in the proper amount, payable to the Vermont Electricians Licensing Board: [ 3-year license ]

7. RECIPROCAL LICENSE APPLICATIONS: (STATES OF NH & MAINE)

a. MUST CONTAIN ALL THE ABOVE INFORMATION.
b. Current LETTER OF CERTIFICATION from Licensing Board of origin (not a photocopy of your current license).

PLEASE NOTE: Section K of this application is VERY important!! If you have ever been in The Vermont Apprenticeship Program and do not indicate so in this section, any grades or hours you have on file with them WILL NOT submitted to the board. Failure to indicate this could slow the process of your application! If you are completed and have a copy of your completion certificate, please forward that along with your application. If you have been enrolled in any Apprenticeship Program in another state, please submit documentation along with a completion certificate if you have one.

***NOTE: ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE BOARD MEETING AND EXPERIENCE APPROVED BY THE BOARD PRIOR TO REGISTERING FOR THE EXAMINATION.***

Scheduled Board Meetings (Dates subject to change without notice.)

The testing information and registration forms will be sent to you by this office once your application is approved by the Board.

All exams will be open book based on:

  • The 2005 State of Vermont Electrical Safety Rules, and
  • The 2005 National Electrical Code
