FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS

The purpose of this program is to protect the people of the State of Vermont from the risk of injury or death from unapproved fire alarm system installations. To do this the state has adopted and enforces the nationally recognized safety codes and by the licensure, education and training of people doing fire alarm inspection and testing work.

A Certification of Fitness (TQP) is required for all individuals performing activities related to fire or life safety, based on the qualifications spelled out below.


FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS INFORMATION

Scope – The periodic inspection and testing of fire alarm and detection systems.
Qualifications – Master electrician or G7(c) Type S Journeyman electrician for fire alarm systems.
Continuing education – Eight (8) hours of related instruction during the previous three (3) years.

NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code 2002 Edition as Amended
NFPA 720 Standard for the Installation of Carbon Monoxide Warning Equipment in Dwelling Units 2005 Edition
NFPA 101 Life Safety Code 2006 Edition

NOTE: The Vermont Division of Fire Safety does not sell code books. Please contact NFPA to purchase the codes and standards.
