MUNICIPAL INSPECTION
AGREEMENTS
Municipal Enforcement
The Vermont
Department of Public Safety, Fire Safety Division, has entered into
cooperative inspection agreements with several Vermont towns and cities.
The various inspection agreements involve fire, electrical, accessibility,
plumbing and structural building codes. Some agreements cover
most aspects of the codes while other agreements are limited to just
a part of the code, or a certain classification of buildings such as
apartment buildings.
Municipal
inspections can provide for improved safety for the residents of the
municipality, closer coordination with other local permits and may provide
quicker service for local property owners and developers. Often local
officials are aware of safety risks to residents, particularly with
existing buildings.
Each municipality may have different resources to offer their citizens
but in each case the Division of fire safety provides the municipality
with training, and assistance with code enforcement on the request of
the municipality.
If you would like to discuss an inspection agreement or have other
questions please contact Chief Fire Prevention Officer Robert Howe,
or Associate General Counsel Peter Kopsco, at 1.800.640.2106.
