FIRE SAFE VERMONT PROJECT

The Fire Safe Vermont Project is an on-going program, which is a unique collaboration of government, and fire departments to bring together a variety of resources to help address Vermont’s fire problem. The main focus of the project is to improve fire prevention and safety skills education for the public.

The program is designed to assist Vermont’s fire departments and Vermont’s major prevention organizations by providing an equipment and program lending library to enable local fire departments to use modern equipment and programs to effectively teach fire safety and better addressing the needs of the community.

The project was originally financed through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Fire Administration's 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Fire Prevention Grant Program, and receives on-going support through a partnership between the United States Fire Administration, the Vermont State Firefighters Association, the State of Vermont Division of Fire Safety, The Safe Kids Vermont Coalition as well as Vermont's local fire departments.

THE FIRE SAFE VERMONT TV PROGRAM

The goal of the Fire Safe Vermont TV program is to increase community awareness of fire safety and injury prevention. Micheal Greenia from the State of Vermont Division of Fire Safety and Tom Middleton from the Burlington Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office are the show producers.

The team develops stories from a list of prearranged fire and injury prevention subjects. Each show runs about 30 minutes and covers three or more different subjects. Local experts are often interviewed and many local any local events are featured.

The program strives to make people think prevention by showing stories they can relate to. The Fire Safe Vermont TV Program airs on public access stations throughout Vermont and is distributed by Channel 17 CCTV / Northern Image Productions in Burlington, Vermont.

Custom and special show DVD's can be obtained by Vermont fire departments for use in their educational programs.
