THE VERMONT FIRE SAFETY HOUSE

The fire safety house trailers are a wonderful interactive educational tool that's very effective in delivering fire and life safety messages to a wide age group. The State of Vermont Division of Fire Safety provides the trailers at NO COST to teach various scenarios to highlight home safety messages.

The Fire Safety House is a mobile travel trailer that is scaled down "kid-sized" two-story house. Kids and adults are able to walk through a kitchen, living room, and bedroom and spot fire hazards. The children are able to practice simple methods of eliminating potentially dangerous situations. All of the activities are done under the guidance of firefighters from the local fire department.

The fire safety house “II” became available for programs in 2001. This 2nd House also provides a hands on environment in which children can learn realistic fire safety lessons by hands on experience. But It also has extra space to provide fire safety programs to senior citizens and an area to demonstrate the benefits of residential fire sprinkler systems with a live fire demo.

The Fire Safety House curriculum is not just limited to Fire Prevention Week, but can be presented at any time throughout the summer. Some departments have even offered the Fire Safety House program to day care centers, summer camps and senior meal sites during the summer months.

This fire safety house is not designed to be towed or demonstrated during inclement weather conditions. So, the programs are vary dependant on good weather. The season will usually run from May to October.

The trailers do book up fast, so please plan early and return the sign out form as soon as possible to reserve your date.
