New Family Preparedness Workbooks Available for Town Meetings
WATERBURY, VT— Vermont Emergency Management has updated its popular Family Preparedness Workbook and is in the process of distributing the guides. VEM is now making them available in bulk to towns, schools, private businesses, or other entities to re-distribute; or individual copies to any family that wants or needs one.
The workbook outlines simple steps we can all take to prepare for a disaster or lessen the effects of natural or man-made calamities; from floods, to snowstorms, to pandemics. This update includes important information on how to heat your home safely and avoid accidental fires or poisoning in the home due to improper heating.
There are several checklists included that will allow families to prepare disaster kits and emergency plans for evacuation and how to reunite your family after an incident.
Town Meeting Day is an ideal time to distribute the guides to residents in individual cities and towns. In 2007 VEM shipped more than 100,000 copies of the workbooks to local governments in the weeks leading up to Town Meeting Day. To receive the workbooks before March 3rd, requests must be made by Friday February 13th.
Any weekly or daily newspaper that wishes to include the workbooks as an insert in an edition may call and request multiple copies at any time. The books come individually or in boxes of 200.
