Vermont Agency of Human Services Program Information

WATERBURY – The Asa Bloomer Building remains closed in the wake of flash flooding that damaged the building in Rutland this past weekend.  The state offices housed in the Rutland building will be closed at least through the end of June as repairs continue.

State employees have been relocated to alternate work sites for the duration of the repairs, including many who serve the public from the Agency of Human Services.  Services to the public are still being provided, but many are at alternate locations, or are being serviced by alternate phone numbers.

The following is a list of services and how they can be accessed during the Agency’s displacement:

Department for Children and Families

  • The Office of Child Support has staff working from two locations: the Middlebury district office as well as Rutland Family Court, located at 9 Merchants Row.  Clients may contact the customer service unit at 1-800-786-3214 between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Family Services Division (FSD) staff is working out of both the Middlebury District office and the Stafford Technical Center. Calls are being routed through the Middlebury District Office (802) 388-4600 and follow up with individual clients is being done locally.  After hours, staff can be reached at: 1-800-649-5285.
  • Economic Services Division (ESD) is following similar phone protocol.  They can be reached at: 1-800-244-2035 or (802) 388-3146.

Department of Aging and Independent Living

  • Office of Public Guardian staff remain at the Howe Center.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation staff are working from Stafford Technical Center.  Their main voicemail message has been changed, and all messages are being forwarded to a central voicemail account that is being checked every 30-60 minutes.
  • Choices for Care staff are located in the DCF-ESD office.

Vermont Department of Health

  • Staff are working in two locations: some are in Rutland and others are working from the Middlebury District office.  Call 1-888-253-8804.

Office of Vermont Health Access

  • Care coordination staff are also co-located with DCF-ESD staff.

The Social Security Administration office is also closed, but consumers can call 1-800-772-1213 for assistance.
