Flash Flooding/Closed Roads in Central Vermont
A number of towns in Washington County are working to recover from flash floods earlier today and last night. At this time, the following road closures and issues have been reported to Vermont Emergency Management.
Wallingford:
A portion of Route 140 is washed out near the Long Trail crossing.
Berlin:
Muzzy Road is washed out and impassable, stranding 6 families in their homes. The town and residents of the road are working with Tucker Gravel Company to get the road re-open.
The Bridge on Chase Brook Road has sustained some damage and it is not known if it is passable. An inspection will be done to determine if traffic can pass over it. Until then, another 12 homeowners are stranded with no egress.
West Hill Road is passable but hazardous. Motorists should try to avoid West Hill Road if at all possible, or drive with extreme caution if it cannot be avoided.
Moretown:
Cox Brook Road is washed out and impassable.
Wardsboro Brook Road is washed out and impassable.
Jones Brook Road is washed out and impassable.
Middlesex:
Water is starting to come over Brook Road and Center Road.
Rain is expected to continue into the evening and all Vermont counties from Rutland and Windsor north are either under Flood Watches or Flash Flood Warnings. Seek higher ground if floodwaters begin to rise and never drive or walk through floodwaters.
Towns that have suffered damage, or suffer damage in the continuing rainfall can report all damage to Vermont Emergency Management at 800-347-0488.
Those affected by the storm can call 211 for emergency shelter or other storm related information.
