Monday Storm Update

WATERBURY, VT— Power restoration efforts continue in Southern Vermont as more than 5,000 homes are still without service following last week’s ice storm. Line crews from Northern Vermont utilities are assisting in the efforts and workers from Canada are expected to arrive on Tuesday to help.

Governor Douglas issued a state disaster declaration for Bennington, Windham, Windsor, and Orange Counties. This pronouncement will allow the Canadian line crews to expedite crossing the international border.

The Governor and Vermont Emergency Management will request a damage assessment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Forms have been sent to all Vermont towns asking officials to report any public infrastructure damage to Vermont Emergency Management. It is too early to determine if Vermont will qualify for federal aid.

All emergency shelters have closed; facilities in Wilmington at Twin Valley Union High School and at the Guilford Community Church are open from 6am to 7pm as warming facilities and will provide food for those in need.

For shelter information or other personal assistance, residents should call 211.
