PLANS FOR CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS OR CHILD CARES

Schools

All schools within the Emergency Planning Zone have emergency plans. Early in an emergency, school children inside the Emergency Planning Zone would be transferred to reception centers. We recommend you do not pick up children at school, instead meet them at reception centers. Children who live inside the Emergency Planning Zone but go to school outside the zone will be kept at their schools until their parents pick them up. Parents should listen to their local Emergency Alert System radio station to confirm this information at the time of an emergency. The station will announce the proper reception center.

Child Care Centers

Early in an emergency, child care centers will be notified. Licensed Child Care Centers will be notified by their town Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Registered Child Care Centers will be notified by town EOC or EAS Message or news advisory. Parents will be notified of this by telephone, if possible, and asked to pick up their children. If not picked up, children will be transferred to a reception center in a timely manner. Parents should listen to their local Emergency Alert System radio station to confirm information at the time of an emergency. The station will announce the proper reception center.

In the unlikely situation where a fast progressing emergency or bad road conditions makes traveling hazardous, people in affected towns (including schools and child care facilities) will be advised to "Shelter-In-Place".

Parents should listen to their local Emergency Alert System radio station to confirm this information at the time of an emergency.
