11/09 - Volunteers Wanted for VT Reception Centers
Vermont Emergency Management is seeking volunteers to staff the state reception centers at Bellows Falls Union High School in Westminster and Twin Valley High School in Wilmington.
The reception centers are used as evacuation points during radiological exercises and actual events. In an actual event, these centers are used to reunite parents with children who have been evacuated from the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ). They are also equipped to host individuals long-term who have been evacuated from their homes.
The Bellows Falls facility has been operated by area emergency management personnel and volunteers for several years. The Twin Valley High School location was recently added as a “western” reception center. The addition of the second center will draw some volunteers from Bellows Falls to Wilmington, so both facilities are in need of volunteers.
Jobs range from Center Director to Greeter, so all skill sets are welcome. Depending on position, training takes anywhere between 8 hours and 1 week; as well as availability for occasional day-long exercises.
To volunteer, contact John Angil of Vermont Emergency Management at 802-251-2172 or by e-mail at jangil@dps.state.vt.us
