CRIMINAL DIVISION
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is commanded by Major Edward Ledo.
The
Criminal Division is highly respected for its investigative
abilities and specialized units. The mission of the Division
is to efficiently and effectively investigate all major criminal
offenses that come to our attention. The Criminal Division
works closely with the State Police Uniform Division, Homeland
Security, prosecutorial staff, personnel from the Office of
the Chief Medical Examiner, other law enforcement agencies
and fire department personnel to bring justice to each case
that is investigated.
The Division is
broken down into three main sections. The Homeland Security
Unit, Special Investigations Unit, and Bureau of Criminal
Investigations. Together, all specialized units and technical
skills are brought together to work with all law enforcement
agencies on the federal, state, and local level.
Homeland Security
Unit missions:
- State, regional and
local terrorism response training.
- Gathering , evaluating,
and dissemination of terrorism intelligence information.
- Coordination of and
managing the administration of federal terrorism grants.
Special Investigations
Unit missions:
- Drug Unit including
undercover unit, surveillance, local and state task force units.
- Computer Crimes Unit
including child pornography, identity theft and computer forensics.
- Intelligence Unit
including collection and dissemination of information, officer
safety de-confliction, organized crime, and crime mapping.
- Polygraph Unit including
criminal and pre employment testing as well as interviewing and
interrogation specialties.
- Governor's Security
Unit including the protective services for the Governor and Lt.
Governor as well as visiting dignitaries.
Bureau of Criminal
Investigation
- Fire Investigation
Unit, also known as the Fire Marshal's Office, sworn state police
detectives who are responsible for determining origin and cause
of suspicious fires and those that result in serious injury or
death.
- Criminal Investigation
Unit is responsible for the major crime investigations of all
deaths including homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, boating,
unattended, and suspicious. In addition responsibilities include
the investigation of drug cases, sexual assaults, embezzlements,
robberies, burglaries, and any other serious crimes.
