Directions and Travel Information

The Phish Festival at Coventry will be held at the Newport State Airport in Coventry, VT. All festival traffic MUST USE Exit 26 off I-91. No other access is available.

Directions from the South and West

From points South and West (New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC) take I-91 North to exit 26 for Route 5 in Vermont. Take a RIGHT off the exit and head North on Rt. 5. Travel approx 10 miles to the second entrance to Airport Rd. following signs to COVENTRY. Take a right on Airport Rd. Follow Airport Rd. approx 2 miles to main entrance.

Directions from South and East

From points South and East (Boston Concord, NH Portland, ME) take I-93 North to I-91 North. See directions above from exit 26.

Directions from Burlington/Northern Vermont

Follow Rt. 100 to Rt. 58 or Rt.14. Follow Rt. 14 or Rt. 58 to Rt. 5 North. Take Rt. 5 North following signs to COVENTRY. Take a right on Airport Rd. Follow Airport Rd. approx 2 miles to main entrance. Please note that you will not be permitted to enter Airport Rd from the North off of Rt 5. We have been advised that there will be extra heavy traffic around Stowe at that time due to an antique auto event so please plan your route accordingly.

Directions from Canada and North

From Canada and point North, take I-91 South to exit 26 for Route 5 in Vermont. See directions above from exit 26. Due to the congested road network in Newport, approaching the festival grounds will not be permitted from the North on Route 5. Be sure to have proper ID for international travel!

  • Airport Road (entire)
  • Coventry Station Road from Route 5 to Pine Hill Road
  • River Road from Coventry Station Road to Webster Road
  • Webster Road
  • Maxwell Road
  • Hi Acres Road

**Please note: additional roads may be closed at the discretion of the Vermont State Police

Schedule:

Thursday, August 12

  • Airport camping and parking lots are scheduled to open to the public at 12 noon
  • Closing/control of all designated roads will commence at 8:00AM or earlier

Saturday, August 14 & Sunday, August 15:

The concert field, located on the Maxwell Farm, will open at 1:00PM on both days
Phish will perform three sets of music each day, beginning at approximately 5:00PM. The band’s final set is projected to end around midnight

Traffic:

Festival traffic is expected to begin arriving very early Thursday morning and will continue steadily through Saturday afternoon (Phish are performing in Massachusetts on Wednesday night, August 11 – we anticipate that many fans will leave for Vermont directly from that show.)

  • The roads should be relatively clear Saturday night and throughout Sunday.
  • The greater proportion of festival traffic will exit I-91 at exit 26 and to continue north on Route 5 to the north entrance of Airport Road. Access onto Airport Road from the north off of Route 5 will not be permitted. This measure is being taken to limit traffic congestion in the Newport vicinity.
  • Vermont State Police will advise as to the best routes of travel during the festival.
  • Please exercise patience and caution with regard to pedestrian traffic.

Be Prepared!

  • Please allow yourself extra time to get to work, etc.
  • Please plan ahead – stock up on gas, food, cigarettes, medicine, propane, etc.
  • Phish fans are extraordinarily friendly. They will listen to you and respectfully respond to any request you make if you are polite and friendly to them.
  • If you would like more official information about Phish or the festival, you may access the following web sites:

Radio Information:

  • Starting at 8:00AM on Thursday, August 12, and continuing non-stop throughout the festival, we will be broadcasting on our radio station, dubbed “The Bunny,” 92.1FM (also on 99.3FM in the St. Johnsbury area)
  • We will broadcast traffic updates and other valuable festival information

Credentials:

  • All residents/businesses inside the closed roads area will be issued a non-transferable vehicle credential in the form of an applied interior windshield decal
  • These decals will allow vehicle passage through police checkpoints for residents/businesses
  • These credentials may be obtained beginning on Saturday, August 7 at our check-in location (on Maxwell Rd, 0.1 mile up the hill from Coventry Station Rd – check-in on RIGHT, parking on LEFT) and will be available the following days/hours:
    • Saturday, August 7 & Sunday, August 8 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM and from 4:00PM to 6:00PM
    • Monday, August 9, Tuesday, August 10 & Wednesday, August 11 from 10:00AM to 6:00PM
    • You must bring a photo ID in order to receive your credential
    • Only one adult member of each household is necessary to pick-up credentials for their residence
    • Please feel free to call our main administration office at 802-334-5278 to arrange another time, if these are not convenient for you
    • This measure is being taken to ensure resident/business access and emergency access for public safety.

Security:

  • Vermont State Police will coordinate all traffic and public safety
  • VSP will maintain a base of operations located at the Newport State Airport in a mobile command center 24 hours a day, with a staging area on Airport Road at the Mead Farm
  • Great Northeast Productions will provide professional, unarmed security, including a mounted horse patrol, to provide security services for the festival.
  • Deployment of these security personnel will include the access checkpoints and the immediate festival area of Airport Road
  • There will be a fully staffed medical team and field hospital on site 24 hours a day

Additional Information:

  • As a courtesy to those inside of the closed road areas (and outside of the immediate festival area), each household will be entitled to receive two free admissions to the event
  • Residents may make these free admission arrangements when they pick-up their credentials (pick-up information above, under “Credentials”)
  • In order to limit vehicular traffic in the northern part of Airport Road, between Coventry Station Road (4 Corners) and the north end of Airport Road at Route 5, an additional credential will be provided to those residents in the immediate festival area

Phish, Great Northeast Productions and the fans would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Vermont, the county of Orleans, the city of Newport and the town of Coventry in advance for their patience and cooperation and for their warm welcome.
