SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 10/6/09, at approximately 8:30 AM the Vermont State Police were notified of a missing 11 year old boy and his Springer Spaniel from his residence in Clarendon. Three Troopers and a State Police K-9 were immediately dispatched to the residence.

After interviewing the parents of the child, two Troopers and the K-9 began a search of the woods near the residence. An additional K-9 team was called from Brandon PD and responded to the scene, as well as three deputies from the Rutland County Sheriffs Department. As the K-9 teams searched the woods, the other police drove around the nearby roads in an effort to locate the child. As the search continued four other police K-9 teams that were training in the area also came to assist in the search.

At approximately 12:30 PM, a resident in Ira contacted the State Police and advised he observed the child in a field near his house. The child was subsequently picked up from that area by one of the deputies patrolling the roads. The child had his backpack, a BB gun and knife. The child was later interviewed by troopers and was found to be okay. He told the troopers that he was prepared to stay in the woods overnight and had the weapons with him for protection. The child and dog needed no medical attention and were turned over to the parents.
