SUMMARY OF INCIDENT

On October 27, 2009 an off-duty member of the Vermont State Police identified an unlicensed seventeen year old juvenile from Wells River driving a vehicle on U.S. Route 302 in Newbury.  The off-duty trooper recognized the juvenile from a car stop he had initiated earlier that day.  During that stop the juvenile was issued traffic tickets and had his vehicle was grounded.

Uniformed State Police were notified by the off-duty trooper and responded to the area. State Police attempted to stop the juvenile at the intersection of U.S. Route 302 and Wallace Hill Road in Newbury.  The offender refused to yield and led State Police on a four and a half mile pursuit traveling down the length of Wallace Hill Road and a small segment of Scotch Hollow Road in Newbury. Speeds exceeded eighty miles per hour on Wallace Hill Road, a gravel roadway.  The offender eventually led State Police down a driveway (near the intersection of Scotch Hollow Rd. and Wallace Hill Rd.) where he attempted to avoid detection by parking between a residence and a garage.  The juvenile was taken into custody at that location without incident.

The juvenile was transported to the Bradford barracks where he was processed and released to his mother with a citation to appear in Orange County District Court on December 2, 2009 to answer the charges of Attempting to Elude, Careless and Negligent Operation, and False Information to Police. (The juvenile gave the arresting officer a false date of birth while being processed at the barracks).  The juvenile was also issued Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for Operating without a License, Misuse of Registration Plates, Operating without Liability Insurance, and Trespassing by Motor Vehicle without Property Damage.
