STATE OF VERMONT PRESS RELEASE MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH CASE#: 09D202989 TROOPER: Sgt. Mike Sorensen DATE/TIME: 11/06/09 0933 hours LOCATION (specific): South Wardsboro Road Town of Newfane VEHICLE #1 OPERATOR: Pending Next of Kin Notification SEAT BELT? Yes WEATHER: Overcast/cloudy SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 11/06/09 at approximately 0933 hours the Vermont State Police, NewBrook Fire Department, and Rescue Inc responded to the South Wardsboro Road in Newfane for a report of a single vehicle off the road on its roof in a brook. Investigation revealed that Vehicle #1 had been traveling north on the South Wardsboro Road , and was rounding a moderate left hand curve in muddy road conditions when the right side tires left the east side of the roadway. Vehicle #1 went over a steep bank and rolled onto its roof into Wardsboro Brook, coming to rest facing in a north northwesterly direction. Passersby found Operator #1 seatbelted in the driver’s seat partially submerged. Operator #1 was extricated by passersby. CPR was initiated and Operator #1 was transported to Grace Cottage Hospital by Rescue Inc. where he was pronounced dead at 1037 hours. A post mortem examination at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is scheduled to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this crash, who has not already spoken with the State Police, is asked to contact Sgt.
