The Vermont State Police makes every effort to release their investigative
reports and photographs to the public.
Investigative reports and
photographs are not generally released to the public under any of the following circumstances:
- The incident is under active investigation or prosecution.
- The report involves juveniles.
- The photographs involve dead bodies.
HOW DO I OBTAIN A VERMONT STATE POLICE
REPORT?
Vermont State Police Reports/Photos
NOTICE: 7/1/09 - You may now request Vermont State Police Reports/Photos on line. This service is available here or you may follow the instructions listed below.
- You must make a written request to obtain a report or photos from the State Police. In this written request you will need to provide:
- The State Police case number (If case number is not included, the request cannot be processed.)
- Check or money order in the amount of:
- $20 per report (If not included the request will not be processed.)
- $20 per set of photos (if photos are available) (If fee is not included the request will not be processed.)
- Your check should be made payable to the Vermont Department of Public Safety.
- Mail your request to:

- If you wish you may also fill out the Request for a Vermont State Police Report form in lieu of the written request. You can download that here. Please mail the request form to the address above.
ACCIDENT REPORTS
- Accident reports are supplied (for a $15.00 fee) by the Department of
Motor Vehicles, Accident Division, 120 State Street, Montpelier, VT 05603-0001. Also, please note that the accident report includes the police report of the motor vehicle accident.
- Police reports of a motor vehicle accident are not normally available for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of the accident.
- Accidents which resulted in a fatality take substantially longer, sometimes several months, due to the amount of investigation required.
VERMONT STATE POLICE REPORTS

- Contact the local Vermont State Police
Station which handled the case and obtain the case number for the Incident.
- Write to the Department at the address
below requesting the report by Case Number. Include in your letter
the reason for your request.
- There is a fee of $20 for each report
requested. Include with your request a check made payable to the Department
of Public Safety.
- Your request will be reviewed by the
Vermont State Police. The report will be mailed to you or you will receive
a written denial. Payment will be returned for reports which cannot
be released.
- NOTE - We do not honor requests made in person at VSP Headquarters or requests made by telephone. Please follow the request outlined above. There are no exceptions to this policy.
To obtain a Vermont State Police report, you must fill out the Request for a Vermont State Police Report form which can be downloaded by clicking here and mail it to the Department of Public Safety. The mailing address is shown below.
DUI VIDEO
NOTICE: 7/1/09 - You may now request Vermont State Police DUI video on line. This service is available here or you may still follow the instructions below.
Effective 7/1/2008 the fee for videos relating to DUI arrests will be $45.00. To obtain a copy of these videos, you will need to contact the barracks that covers the area where the arrest took place, ie: Duxbury is covered by Middlesex VSP, and obtain the video from the clerk at that barracks. As with other reports all request must be made in writing and the fee sent in with the request. If the video is not available, the fee will be returned to you.

PHOTOGRAPHS?

- Contact the local Vermont State Police
Station which handled the case and obtain the case number for the incident.
- Write to the Department at the address
below requesting the photographs by Case Number. Include in your
letter the reason for your request.
- Photographs are supplied on a compact disc (CD). The fee is $20.00. Include with your request a check made payable to the
Vermont Department of Public Safety.
