Search & Rescue Team Patch Search & Rescue Team

The Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team has twenty men and women Troopers and one member of Vermont Emergency Management. The team's history dates back to the origin of the Vermont State Police which was formed by Vermont Legislators after the unsuccessful search for an eighteen year old college coed missing on the Long Trail in the Bennington, Vermont, area. In the late 1980's a law was passed that mandated all endangered missing person cases be reported to the Vermont State Police.

The Search and Rescue Team provides management of search incidents as well as trained field personnel. Many volunteer search and rescue teams assist in search efforts. The team uses a mobile command post, mountain bikes and ATV's to assist at searches. The team is very active with many calls for assistance in our rural communities.

Team Leader
Sergeant Robert Cushing
1-802-748-3111

The team may be activated by calling any local State Police station.
